Bio

West-coast born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, I attended the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr School of Art) for one year. Unsatisfied with the slow pace of a first year arts program, I set out on my own path of enlightenment and creative pursuits. In 1980, I was fortunate to find a studio space to rent in the form of a vacant storefront on White Rock's beach directly across from it's famous pier, for $300 a month. This proved to be a rather quirky location for an art studio but it served me well for seven years.

My first recurring gig was illustrating trendy greeting cards in a "California-style" which allowed me to master the airbrush at a time when very few people even knew what that was. Several years later I was commissioned to design and paint the entire interior of a "Casablanca-themed" night club in New Westminster, BC and realizing how much I enjoyed the large "mural" format of painting, the painstaking airbrush needed to be retired. I have since created dozens of public art murals in western Canada and Ontario. My wife and I moved with our young children to Penticton in 1995 and the charming South Okanagan Valley has become our forever home.

As a child of the 1950's and 60's I absorbed and embraced the timeless "Mid-Century" style of everything around me from architecture to automotive and industrial design and the commercial illustrators of the day would become my creative heroes for life. It was a time of unbridled optimism and the style was bold, graphic and exciting. Add to that a distinct influence of French and California Impressionism and you begin to recognize the roots of my style of painting. Unless I'm given a specific commission I paint what I like to paint and I enjoy the freedom of illustrating whatever pops into my head !

I am currently a director of the Okanagan Art Gallery, a 26-member artist's co-op in Osoyoos, BC and a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. My paintings are displayed in four venues in the Okanagan Valley. See the Galleries page for locations and information.
